2 Years of Service, 2 Life-Changing Years for Youth Unemployment!

More than 150 representatives from the most important companies in Greece, including Mellon Technologies, and the most promising organisations in the IT and technology world attended an event on Thursday, 13 September 2018, held by the Alliance For Digital Employability (AFDEmp), to celebrate its two years of service to Greek society, with the reskilling programs in software development, the Coding Bootcamps.

AFDEmp is an initiative started by CEPIS President Byron Nicolaides, distinguished academics of the Athens University of Economics and Business – George Doukidis, Diomidis Spinellis, Katerina Pramatari and Panos Louridas – HePIS Chairman Nikos Faldamis, HePIS Director Eleni Nicolaides, and over 200 major corporations and businesses. Its goal is to tackle unemployment, as well as to help those who want to change their career path through fast-track reskilling in high-level digital skills. The initiative was significantly inspired by the findings of a feasibility study conducted – under the auspices of CEPIS – by the University of Economics and Business of Athens, ALBA and HePIS, according to which youth unemployment and the gap between supply and demand for high-level digital skills can be addressed through reskilling.

Today, through AFDEmp's programmes, more than 200 unemployed graduates with different educational backgrounds (from mathematicians and physicists to theologians and nurses) have enriched their IT skills and are now employed in well-paid software development jobs in major Greek companies. During the event, AFDEmp honoured Mellon Technologies and the rest of the the companies that embraced the initiative, as a token of appreciation for their contribution.
